For independent grocers and the wholesalers that serve them
Most – if not all – independent grocers are involved in green initiatives of some sort, whether it’s environmentally-friendly refrigeration systems, recycling, or using LED lighting.
We’d like you to share your green initiatives with us with the goal of collecting 100 such posts by Earth Day.

Permalink Reply by jonathan tan on April 5, 2012 at 12:12pm I think one thing we all forget is the reuse component of sustainability. I have a long standing act of saving old print outs from meetings, mailers, and the like. I use the backs of these as my scratch paper or for making notes. I recycle after using.
Permalink Reply by Neil Kudrinko on April 7, 2012 at 12:59pm We're currently in the midst of rebuilding and expanding our parking lot. In an effort to minimize the impact of our parking lot on the environment our engineers have devised a plan to deal with much of the run off water on the property itself rather than directing it to municipal storm sewers. Also, we plan on using solar powered street lighting in the lot, saving operational costs as well as avoiding associated carbon emissions that result from traditional grid tied lighting. If you're interested in learning more about solar street lighting check out Inovus Solar.
